To have your cards total as near to 21 as possible, or 21, without going over.
Everyone plays against the dealer (the House) who deals each player two initial cards and deals the house one card.
Cards are counted at their face value.
Kings, Queens, and Jacks count as 10.
Aces count 1 or 11.
If your first two cards equal 21, being a 10 or a face and an Ace, you have Blackjack and you cannot lose but you can tie if the dealer also has Blackjack. If you win with the Blackjack, you get paid one and a half times your money.
If your card count is 21 or below, but greater than the dealer’s, you win; if it is less, the house wins. If you tie with the dealer, you “push“ (nobody wins and nobody loses.) If you go over 21, you “bust“ or immediately lose. If the dealer “busts“, they pay all the players still in the game.
Players must place their bets prior to any cards being dealt. No bets can be changed or altered after cards have been drawn.
How to play Blackjack:
after bets have been placed and the players have been dealt their first two cards, the players can:
-ask for additional cards
-split their cards
(if a player has two cards of the same number), placing another wager equal to their original bet thus forming two hands
-double their original bet
(providing they only take one further card ) on their first two-card total ( with the exception of a Blackjack)
The dealer must draw on 16 or under and must stand on 17 or over.
Players use hand signals to indicate if they require further cards or not.
The signals most often used are:
hit: requiring an additional card. Tap the table.
stand: no more cards required. Wave your hand, palm open, parallel to the table.
double or split: Place your matching bet next to, never on top of, your original bet and inform the dealer if you are doubling or splitting.
If the player has a higher hand than the dealer, without going over 21, the player wins and is paid even money ( 1-1 ).
